A Bunch Of Surprises

I thought I loved grapes. I was an avid green grape lover and would turn down purple grapes. But if all I knew them was by their color then how could I say that I loved something I didn’t even know what I was eating. Then I experienced almost twelve varieties last year at Wheeler’s Orchard & Vineyard and I discovered there was more to life then red and green. There was a blushy green Reliance, a subtle Suffolk Red and a local light purple Steuben.

Folks look for a winery when they see Wheeler’s has a vineyard but they don’t have one…Yet!  With an amazing variety of native, hybrid, seedless, seeded, table, wine & processing grapes, you can find the perfect low hanging fruit to make your own wine or juice, pies, preserves, or perfect little healthy snacks to pop in your mouth or to add to fresh salads.  Like many local fruit, it’s a short season running from about from mid– July through early September so stop by their booth to discover your new not-found-in-stores sweet treat.

As this season has been extra wet and hot, there has also been a critter getting into their vineyard decreasing production from last year. What a year this has been in so many aspects. Wheeler’s is known as being the closest U-pick orchard to Chattanooga but due to covid, you can still pick but it is by appointment only. Did you know that picking your own food releases feel-good endorphins? Go to their website to configure a time to go with your closest crew.
