As our market has been in existence for a decade, things have evolved including how farmers grow, what our customers are looking for, and what monies are exchanged. As technology advances so do farmers markets and with that, we are doing away with our token program.
As many of our shoppers know, the token program is a way for vendors who do not accept credit cards to accept them in a roundabout way. As most vendors now have a way to accept credit cards and the token program is more costly to the market as well as the vendors, we have decided to do away with the tokens.
What does this mean for our customers?
It means the vendors will still continue to accept the tokens that you have purchased prior to Jan 1, 2020. However, it means that we will no longer sell them to eventually get them completely out of circulation. If you are one who habitually purchased tokens, you will need to make direct credit card or cash transactions with the vendor. If the vendor does not accept credit cards, then you need to be prepared with cash.
For those customers who purchased SNAP tokens, no fret as we will still offer these as its a wonderful program. For those who don’t know, the red tokens you may have seen are from SNAP—Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Its a federal program that provides nutrition benefits to low-income individuals and families that are used at stores to purchase food. The program is administered by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) through its nationwide network of FNS field offices.
We understand that change is never easy, especially when it comes to money. As our non profit market is looking to grow, we appreciate your patience and support as those are key to sowing the seeds of love.
