Be Very Very Quiet

As a child who grew up watching Looney Tunes, it never occurred to me until my adult life that Elmer was really after Bugs for dinner. Having grown up in a little suburbia town, there were no farms close to my neighborhood and definitely no one selling rabbit. Thanks to Lauren from Ada’s Heritage, I finally got to taste what I have been missing all these years.

Compared to other meat sources, rabbit has the highest percentage of protein and lowest percentage of fats, and it is also richer in Omega 3s than chicken. Lean, tender and versatile, we simply roasted our whole with some black pepper and sweet peppers. Another time we put it in the crock pot overnight, pulled the meat and tossed it in her hot pepper jelly and some bbq. You ain’t living until you’ve had a bbq rabbit platter.

One of our newest vendors, here is a little tidbit about Ada’s Heritage but don’t hesitate to stop by her booth as Lauren loves to share her passion about the transition she and her family made just a few years ago.

Founded in 2016 and located in Wildwood, Lauren started her farm because she was fed up with what grocery stores were feeding us. On the small, family farm she has chickens, goats, and rabbits and precious livestock guardian dogs that protect them all. As to provide more labelless products for her family, she also makes soaps, shampoos, lotions and dairy products like yogurt, butter and milk.

Here is a blurb, that I absolutely love, from her facebook page describing why she started the farm — ”The environment loves to dance but it also loves to lead. I figured that nature had been at this way longer than me and therefore most likely knew better than I. Safe assumption, I’m sure of it, so that’s the big idea. To take a farm beyond organic to regenerative. To be a student of the earth’s and listen to her ques. To learn farming techniques that give back what was lost and manage our little ecosystem back to better living. To leave for future generations a sustainable, attainable, alternative model of feeding the folks on the planet without destroying that pretty planet in the process.”
