The festivities continue this month as September i

The festivities continue this month as September is when we are all grateful for the chillier mornings and breezier, sunny afternoons. We told you about @highpointfarms’ Dahlia Dinner that was this past Friday, @quailrunfarmtn and @landtotablefarm’s family-friendly concert coming up on the 16th, and @crabtreefarms Fall Plant Sale on the 21st and 22nd. Your calendar is filling up fast with farm-loving festivities and we thank you for your continued support even on days other than Wednesdays.

Thursday, September 26th, our beloved food-focused digital media @foodasaverb is celebrating their one-year anniversary at Cherry Street Tavern. With the Bohannon Brothers and chef serving up local food, live music, sweet swag and plenty of celebratory hugs. More details to come but save the date! And big shout out to Cherry Street Tavern who has realized the value in using local food on their menu, specifically from everyone’s favorite Wednesday market.

Our next market event is September 18th as it will celebrate the Fall Equinox (as well as National Overalls Day and National Chicken Month) with guest vendors, live music and we are encouraging folks to wear their finest overalls.

To be honest, we are more than okay if you rock your bibs every Wednesday cause, we sometimes do. To know when all our special market events are, check out our new FAQ page and we’ll see you soon!

Not only because it’s in the title, but the Crab

Not only because it’s in the title, but the Crabtree Farm’s Fall Plant Sale is confirmation that cooler days are within reach. As a non-profit urban farm for over twenty-five years, this educational landscape provides more for the community than sustainably grown produce and native plant starts.

“Grow, educate, and connect” is their trademark and they execute this every day with a bounty of farm tours and field trips, u-pick opportunities, workshops and events.

With their ever-expanding community gardens that offer free growing space to East Lake and Alton Park residents, there is also space reserved for people who do not have the landscape to grow at home. Click here for more information about becoming a community gardener and other ways to support Crabtree’s cultivation of community. Not sure if you want to dig in the dirt unsupervised, then sign up for one of their seasonal work-share shifts to have a hands-on experience of growing food.

One of their big annual fundraisers, the Fall Plant Sale (be sure to mark you calendars for their other ones— Spring Plant Sale and The 100 Dinner) is Saturday, Sept. 21st and Sunday, Sept. 22nd. Like everything else these urban farmers put their hands to, this event has grown substantially over the decades. Live music, food trucks, hayrides and local vendors will liven up the fields on both days from 9a-3p. Tomorrow is the last day to apply to be a vendor and here is the form.

Whether selling or buying at their plant sale, we hope to see you there as well as this Wednesday at market! Stop by Crabtree’s booth to see “What’s Ripe” like spicy and sweet peppers, eggplant, squash, and the Appalachian mango aka the paw paw.
