Hot Peppers In Cool Weather

Alongside pink and purple daikons, golden flowers, and luscious greens, Circle S Farms has a rainbow of flavor in their variety of peppers. From the beautiful purple Islander pepper to the precious and crisp Lunchbox red and yellow peppers, Circle S has a pepper for every palette.

Let’s start with the sweet and we’ll work our way up to those that need served with a glass of milk.

The Lunchbox are a perfect fresh snack served straight up or stuffed with goat or pimento cheese. Depending on what you’re serving up, green Bells or red Carmens are the perfect crispy accent to any veggie plate or sauteed dish.

Similar in taste to a green bell pepper, the Islander pepper is a perfect choice in dishes where its versatility can help build complexity and depth of flavor—and where its unique color can really stand out. Not only is the islander beautifully violet straight off the plant, but also it continues to ripen into red as well.

If you have never experimented with the Shishito, its a fun pepper to blindly bite into as you never know if its going to be overwhelmed with heat or greeted with a mild sweetness. These shriveled bright green littles are perfect for stir frying or smoking with chicken and served atop of rice for comfort food with a kick.

And that brings us to our classic spicy peppers— Jalapeno, Cayenne, Habanero and Hot Pepperocini. As I always joke that I’m spicy enough, I do shy away from such heat but like to occasionally throw one (and I mean one that is the tinee tiniest) into a batch of roasted veggies. I am a huge fan however of shoving an array of heat and color into a bottle of white vinegar to create a Hot Pepper Vinegar to splash over my greens.

Circle S Farms, now on their eleventh season vending at the Main St Farmers Market, offers a variety pack of peppers so you can enjoy a sampling of sweet to hot and decipher which level of heat is right for you.
