Bradley and Dana Bleasdale have been apart of our market since day one, over ten years ago and we couldn’t be happier as they bring raw goat milk along with a bounty of produce. Nestled just down the road from the majestic Fall Creek Falls, Fall Creek Farms is alive with free range chickens, goats and several plots of produce. And as the farm is expanding their goat milk line to include things like kefir and chevre, we are all excited for the next ten seasons with Fall Creek Farms attending every Wednesday.
I don’t think they have ever missed a market. With over an hour of a drive, Bradley and Dana (usually with Masha in tow) never forget to bring along their stories, laughter and liveliness. As farmers regularly cope with unforeseen circumstances on the farm like weather or infestations, the Bleasdale’s enthusiasm reassures that farming also grows character.
As I never drank raw goat milk before attending the MSFM, I was hesitant but curious as I heard it helps build your immunity to poison ivy because the goats are immune to it. It was a new flavor that I had to become used to, like some other market products that have crossed my path, and my belly is better off because of it. I was gifted an easy recipe (thanks to Jennifer Blair) that has helped me consume a half gallon of raw goat milk a week. Usually having it for breakfast, I have found it to be a nice sweet treat anytime of day.
Two cups raw goat milk, one large banana, one heaping scoop of peanut butter and two tablespoons of chia seeds. Jennifer also said I could add a drizzle of chocolate syrup to take it up a notch to a Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana smoothie but its sweet enough without it.
So now they have the wonderful sweet or savory flavored chevre so I have been working on some quick, easy recipes with those as well. The sweet one is perfect for a spin on the classic ‘Ants On A Log’ by filling a celery stalk and topping it with craisins. The savory one is flavorful addition to sautéed spinach and makes for a rich creamy spinach side dish or dip.
As they are waving the herd share sign up fees for one more week, now is the ideal time to sign up as its the only way you can enjoy raw milk in Tennessee. See you Wednesday!
