Williams Island Farm is a 20+ acre farm located on Williams Island, situated in the middle of the Tennessee River miles from downtown Chattanooga. Our farm was started in January of 2008 by Larry Roberts, a Baylor teacher and long time member of the Chattanooga community, with the hope of creating a diversified organic farm that would become a resource for Baylor school and the Chattanooga community.
Williams Island is a 450 acre island managed by the Tennessee River Gorge Trust and owned by the state of Tennessee. The island has a rich farming history, and has been farmed continuously for over a thousand years. We are proud to be part of this lineage of island farmers, and in an age where we have lost so much of our old knowledge, strive to steward the land in a way that adds beauty and improves the soils of the island.
Williams Island Farm hopes to be an educational venue where we can all rediscover our connection with the land and the joy that tending to it can bring us. We aim to be a community farm, so that means it is yours, and if you like what we are doing please come and help develop our farm into something beautiful and bountiful.
